Blind Selection Process

We are putting a new meaning to equity.

We recognize the importance of fair and equitable opportunities within the educational sphere. This is why we have made it our goal to eliminate any unconscious biases in our application review process. For the statistically significant rationale behind this decision please see this article from the National Bureau of Economic Research.

01

Personal Information is Separated

While we do request some personal identifying information (name, address, demographics), this information is completely separated from our application review process until it is time to identify winner(s) and finalist(s).

03

Creative Statements

We are firm believers that creativity is necessary for innovative thinkers and next generation leaders. This is also why we take time to create interesting prompts that do not reflect personal identifiers but an applicant's ability to think outside of the box... and even break it!

02

Objective Measurement

Applicants will only proceed to the secondary stage once their objective criteria (GPA, AP courses, SAT/ACT scores, etc.) have met our minimum requirements.

04

Panel Review

Our Application Committee reviews late-stage applications independently before convening for a half day Winner Selection meeting. Here, our committee fights for you to win and eventually determines a final list of winner(s) and finalist(s).

Brief Advocacy Statement

Applicants must write a Brief Advocacy Statement. The following questions should be answered.

What have you done so far that makes you the best applicant? How does that work/effort fit into your future life goals?

Good Statement:

As a two-sport athlete in AP classes, it is hard to balance in-school responsibilities and work. But, for the past two years I have also kept a steady part-time job to save money for college. I plan to use these savings on my educational journey in sports medicine, hopefully becoming a trainer for an NFL team.

Not-so-good Statement:

I work very hard in and out of school to make sure that I can go to a good college. My parents work even harder to make sure that my siblings and I are well taken care of. Winning this scholarship would really help out with the financial burdens of attending college and validate my years of hard work.

Creative Statement

Applicants must write a Creative Statement that is 500 words or less. Each application has a unique set of Creative Statement prompts to choose from. The following is a list of basic criteria that will be used to evaluate each Creative Statement:

  • Basic English grammar and spelling

  • Effectiveness to communicate a clear response

  • Lack of personal identifying information
  • Relevance to the selected prompt

  • Creativity in response, unique and original

  • Lacking Artificial Intelligence content
